B.D.S.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) is a professional undergraduate medical program focused on oral healthcare, dental science, and treatment of teeth and related structures. The course provides in-depth knowledge of subjects such as dental anatomy, oral pathology, prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. It trains students to diagnose, prevent, and treat dental problems such as tooth decay, gum diseases, and oral infections. The program includes both theoretical learning and extensive clinical training, allowing students to gain practical experience in dental procedures and patient care.

To pursue B.D.S., students must have completed their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized board. A minimum of 50% marks is generally required (with relaxation for reserved categories as per rules). Admission to dental colleges in India is primarily based on the NEET examination, followed by counseling and seat allocation. Students should have an interest in medical science, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and good communication skills.

After completing B.D.S., students can work as dental surgeons in hospitals, dental clinics, and healthcare centers or start their own dental practice. They can also work in government health services, research institutions, or dental product companies. Graduates may pursue higher studies such as M.D.S.
